Kim,
  First of all, please don't ever doubt that you have something to offer. Being 
new to this profession just means you bring a fresh new way of looking at 
things. It really gets my goat when other teachers denegrate another 
teacher/administrator because he or she has little or no experience.
   
  Second, you are right about the music. It reflects our culture, and analyzing 
it may just be what would help these kids open up. At my school we'd have to 
inform parents and give them documentation of every curse word we encountered. 
I don't know what Bill's school would require.
   
  Keep on posting, the more voices we have in the conversation, the better!
