Well, I would hold on to all that you feel is gold for primary and think about how to grow the content and make thing age appropriate. Good instruction in kinder is more like good instruction in high school that you think!
You may want to take a look at Jeff Wilhem's book on inquiry. It is published by Scholastic and I think you would find it helpful in terms of meshing science and social studies with workshop instruction.
