Pat- the organizers I use are pretty standard - I like Vicki Benson's triange/square/circle for retelling, basic story maps, somebody-wanted-but-so-then, semantic feature maps, nothing particularly fancy.? I also frontoad the elements of the genre so they know what to be on the alert for.? I have visuals with "key words" - for example, in cause/effect we start simply with "because, so and since."? Then once they understand the relationships, we move to short text where the cause/effect relationships are inferred.? Lots of short text before moving to longer text.?
I hope this helps.
