I discovered the "Marley and Me" picture books last year.  I think there are 4 
of them now.  I had a 2nd grade special ed class for enrichment.  They loved 
the first book of the series which we did as an interactive read aloud.  They 
were so full of life, made tons of connections and predictions and really 
enjoyed the whole  experience.  You can get them from Amazon and Scholastic(I 
think).
