I have to respectfully disagree about the amount of time it takes as I feel
that varies by district...

In my district K/1st have 29 kids (averages), 2/3 have 32 and 4/5 have 35.  We
are not given subs, or any extra time for the assessments.  Although many of
the tests are "1 minute tests," by the time you read the directions, give
multiple tests, deal with behavior issues in between, etc. it takes a lot more
time than that!  Most teachers typically lose 1 week of instruction 3 times a
year, plus...we are supposed to progress monitor.  On top of that, we have to
do at least 3 running records per year for each child (this I believe actually
helps me to drive my instruction so I don't mind).  I feel that I spend a good
chunk of my life assessing.  I am not saying thay assessment is bad, it's just
that I feel that I need to teach too:)  Many of the kids that are supposed to
be progressed monitored, are actually on/above grade level students according
to running records, but below according to DIBELS.

Basically, I think that the time that it takes depends on your school/district.

Respectfully,
Ellen/1st & 2nd/Michigan
