Dear Mark,

in my view, it would not be a good idea to have an extra list of beginners. You might end up with a situation where only very few are subscribed to your new list and then these are also beginners -- who is then answering your questions :) On the other hand, no-one will mind beginners questions here.

BTW: instead of wading through hundreds of mails in the archive better ask Google. E.g., searching with the interface at http:// www.mozart-oz.org/lists/ results in the following query

<your query> site:lists.gforge.info.ucl.ac.be/pipermail/mozart-users/ OR site:lists.gforge.info.ucl.ac.be/pipermail/mozart-hackers/ OR site:lists.gforge.info.ucl.ac.be/pipermail/mozart-announce/ OR site:lists.gforge.info.ucl.ac.be/pipermail/mozart-meps/ OR site:www.mozart-oz.org

Also, the Virtual Manual for Mozart/Oz is a nice kind of index into the documentation.

Hi,

Would it not be possible to have a seperate mailing list specifically for
beginners?

I've just completed a second year degree module using oz and my final year
project will also be using oz.
However, from an oz 'experts' point of view I am still very much a beginner. I keep causing myself problems with global/local variables, QTk interfacing and a number of other things. When I have these problems I tend to scan the
documentation then post a question on the users mailing list.
If we're honest, most would agree that the majority of the oz documentation is not suitable for beginners and wading through hundreds of messages about constraint programming, compiler interaction, kernel language semantics, etc on the users mailing list just to find help on using a QTk label widget can
take hours.

So, (whoever makes these decisions), wouldn't another small beginners mailing list be possible? I considered setting my own web forum up but this then
takes the info away from a central repository.
I'm sure this would help increase the user base of this language.

Regards
Mark Richardson
