Perhaps the easiest way to get around this is to do the redesign
elsewhere (such as newlook.mozilla.org or something like that) and
establish the basic design and all static content there. When that was
declared good there could be a "mass move" of dynamic content to the
newlook site followed by another "mass move" to the real site (as well
as a mass checking to a new branch).
I'm willing to help with this, but unfortunately am not very good at
building a UI from the ground up. If the basic design were already
established, I could help with data formatting, etc.
