Hmmm ... Maybe I'm just crazy, but on a site this size with this
frequency of changes, mozilla.org is just begging to be
database/template driven. Is it using includes at least right now (is
that the Wrapper Gervase was talking about? Sorry don't know anything
about how it is built right now.)
I'm not sure who would be willing to implement (I could in time with the
right permissions, but never could on the timetable that might be needed
-- full time job and part time jobs already) ... but maybe some
considerations should be put into making the site Database (PHP/mySQL?)
driven so as to keep the content / presentation seperated. The overall
look would be seperate. Hmmmm ... where have we heard that before?
Also, navigation for sub-sections might be drops downs which would be
updated dynamically based on the database/content management being
updated. This would facilatate many things, not the least of which
would be automatic date stamps on every page so you could judge last
time something was edited, and content wouldn't disappear or get lost.
So people wouldn't necessarily need to know PHP it could all be run from
a Web admin panel or something .... just dump your html in there and run
...
This overall sounds great, but would probably be a monumental undertaking.
Maybe some real die hard PHP head out there knows of an Open Source tool
that might already exist that could be used?
Just a thought. Maybe a little to idealistic.
