Because this is input, not output (from my point of view anyway) to 
organise the text.  As soon as you use HTML you open the gates for all the 
twiddly favourite go-arounds on an individual basis.  Use a grammatically 
equivalent but restricted vocabulary and you remove all of those temptations.
