This is definitely quite true. I never liked Winamp. I honestly think
it sucks. I love Sonique, and it's awesome interface. However, Sonique
doesn't support skinning, Winamp does. Winamp probably has two or three
times the market share as Sonique, even though I think sonique is just a
better designed product. It uses less CPU cycles, has never given me
any problems, never crashes, etc. But it doesn't have any of the
following Winamp does. The only thing I can think is that the skins can
play a small but significant difference in that.
If skins can win over just a small amount of people, those people will
win more. My little brother used Winamp. I found Sonique and liked it.
I told him to try Sonique. He didn't like it. But I kept talking
about how awesome the interface was, and how much I liked it, and now if
you check his hard drive you'll find Sonique.exe and no Winamp.exe.
