Thanks for the replies guys! I will stick with just the madlib.dll for converting from MP3 -> WAV then as it seems to work good and if you guys say it's better than LAME.
As for converting from WAV -> MP3, again the component with Audio Components Suite will only work with the 3.93 version of lame_enc.dll. I really don't mind sticking with this version if there's nothing wrong with it. Do you guys know of any serious issues that might arise if I use the 3.93 version as opposed to the newer 3.96 version? If so, are there any .pas files out there that will allow me to connect to the newer 3.96 version so I don't have to do all of the ugly grunt work of trying to use the .dll? Thanks again! Can > you tell me why mad is "better"? mpglib is a subset of mpg123, did you read the comparision of mpg123 and madlib at the mad homepage (I don't think the author of mad does some tricks there)? Additionally mad is more forgiving with "bad" MP3s. We (the lame maintainers/developers) talked about replacing mpglib with mad in lame. The consensus was that it would be a nice thing, unfortunately mad uses the GPL (at least this was the case the last time we discussed this) and we want something which uses the LGPL. But if someone writes code which integrates mad with lame (including support for the mp3 frame analyzer), we can integrate it and offer a compile time option to choose the decoder.
