I'm really tempted to vent on these admitted liberals writing in to
complain about the property tax increases. Your votes and your support
have served to amplify an ongoing problem - I would say crisis. As
Steve Minn pointed out, we haven't even seen the bill for the new
library.
I won't, however. I would rather welcome you to the group. I have
spent the last three years emphasizing this issue in my campaigns
because of my experiences and because I have heard vigorous complaints
from so many residents (obviously not nearly enough, yet).
Our property tax system is quite convoluted and in desperate need of
repair, relief, if not scrapping. I readily admit that I have not yet
come up with an alternative but think we must focus on finding one - as
the governor has undertaken.
I still have not yet mastered the intricacies of our tax code but know
that the valuations are only the beginning of the increases. The final
bill is based on how much the city - and numerous government agencies -
says it needs to operate. We ain't seen the end of this one!
