I don't want to get into a contest about who has the worst drivers. I'm
from New Jersey where I learned to drive, lived in Pennsylvania, Michigan,
France, Tunisia, and drove extensively in Mexico and Puerto Rico. In case
anyone wants to know, the worst drivers in the world (and this tops the
French and the Germans) are the Hassidic Jews in Crown Hts., Brooklyn. (Is
there any wonder that major riots occured there between Blacks and
Hassidic Jews?)
With that said, Minnesota drivers (at least the ones from the twin
cities) may think they are "good" drivers who have regards for safety and
other drivers, but the opposite is true. The amnesia and hypocricy of
"Minnesota Nice" is played out in cars on our streets and highways every
day. Driving and by extension, parking, are cultural as well as
technical. It is learned behavior that is passed down from generation to
generation.
In regards to the racial profiling discussion, when the public meets the
cops during traffic stops, there is the law and there is
discretion. Police policies and attitudes play a big major role in
whether the cop gives you a warning or writes the ticket and does a
search. That's way we need independent study or this chronic problem.
