My personal advice, look at the list I mentioned, and start investigating
whatever intrigues you the most - that is what will sustain your interest
as you delve into the code.

Of course, some of these will be more difficult than others, and some are
probably already being worked on by others.  I might suggest you start by
looking at the "Other Program Behavior" section.
