Just for future reference, it might be helpful to other Linux Mint users. I used the following procedure on an old notebook with a fresh installation of Linux Mint 17.1 (Rebecca) without any trace of previous MuseScore or custom Qt installation (Mint 17.1 comes with Qt 5.2.1):
1) Added the PPA via Upgrade Manager 2) Updated the package cache 3) Refreshed the Update List and applied all and only the proposed updates (i.e. no "Update" check mark toggled from the default): I noticed that the UM downloaded and installed (part of) Qt 3.5 from the MuseScore PPA 4) Closed the Update Manage and started Synaptic 5) Searched for "MuseScore"; two main packages are proposed: the old 1.3 from Ubuntu and the new 2.0 from the PPA (+ a number of collateral, instrumental, packages); marked the latter for installation 6) "Apply!": More Qt 5.3 modules and MuseScore 2.0 are downloaded from the PPA and installed 7) Closed Synaptic and looked in the Main Menu: the MuseScore 2.0 icon is smiling from the Sound & Video sub-menu! 8) Started MuseScore 2.0: everything works!!! Thanks!!!
