I recently updated my Gentoo Linux system to kernel version 2.6.10, and the
msp430-jtag tool ceased to work. I wondered if my install was correct, but I
reviewed the install script, and all seemed well. Chris Liechti was kind
enough to respond to some queries, and sees no errors in that part of my
install script. As a check, I used the same script to install the whole
toolchain on a system running kernel 2.4.28, which had never had any msp430
stuff on it before, and the jtag tools work flawlessly on it. A complete
re-install on the 2.6 system with the same script produces a broken
msp430-jtag. My install uses _parjtag.so, which runs through ppdev.

Since there are other reports that bit-banging interfaces on the parallel
port fail under 2.6, and some outstanding kernel bugs relating to this in
the kernel Bugzilla, it looks likely that the problems lie in the kernel,
and will eventually be fixed.

In the meantime, if anyone has the parallel-port tools running under kernel
2.6, I'd be very grateful if you can tell me how you did it. If not, be
cautious upgrading your kernel if these tools are necessary to you.
