I've been using free software exclusively for my personal use (running Linux on my laptop) and I'm quite pleased with it. That means that I don't use MSVC as my compiler of choice these days. I'm currently working in a small brokerage company, and right now I'm busy building a huge PHP based website for them. We have some desktop applications in our todo list, which would mean that I *might* come back to MSVC again soon. I say might, because I'm considering using some free libraries such as gtk+ as well. I've also been accepted in Sharif University of Technology <http://www.sharif.edu/>, which is considered the best technical school here, for an MS degree in Computer Engineering. Some of you might know that my BS major was Mechanical Engineering (doh!) so that would positively influence my future career, should I choose to stay in this country. I've also considered joining some open source projects, and the one I'm reading about right now is WINE <http://www.winehq.com/> which is a re-implementation of the Win32 API to be run on Linux and some other unixes. This might be the most important open source project around, if you ask me, and it's *highly* educational even for pure Windows programmers. Of course you need to install Linux to be able to test it out, but doing so is quite easy these days (willing to help anyone who has problems in that regard.) Just imagine checking how various Win32 services are actually implemented, and even more than that (it includes an implementation of NTDLL.DLL as well)! I recommend it to anyone who wishes to see what goes "under the hood" in Windows... That should summarize what I'm doing these days, but I'll be here for helping at least for quite some time I guess. -- Ehsan Akhgari Farda Technology <http://www.farda-tech.com/> Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid altogether. _______________________________________________ msvc mailing list [email protected] See http://beginthread.com/mailman/listinfo/msvc_beginthread.com for subscription changes, and list archive.
