The origin of the information about the 9958 chips was my email here after reading an announcement on aamsx.org. Agony got the news from the italian mailing list (as i read that later). Gilberto is a known msx'er in Italy, IC Miri e.g. Not a fancy email address, but his job email :) Enough to trust him i guess.
