Hi Beth! How old is Diego? My answer would be different depending.
For example, with my baby boy (28 months), I repeat everything in French (our minority language). It's a different story with my daughter, who turns 7 tomorrow (OT: where does the time go, people?): She mixes in English words with me a) when she doesn't know the French word (which is sometimes valid) or b) for unknown reasons (fatigue? lack of French brain power? under usage?). At these times, I ask her to use French with me (comment dit-on "towel" en francais, Meredith?) and she'll usually produce it correctly, often with a sigh. ...and so it goes! We're going to work on literacy in French this summer. Now *that* should be interesting!
