rather than track accreditation for recordings.

That's part of the current and proposed guideline:
'In both cases:
Add Relationships of the appropriate Relationship Class (usually
Performance) to link to the featured artist(s') entries in
MusicBrainz.'
There's a 'guest' tick box for this. I've added many such ARs in the past.
