Hi, You can find a test file here http://download.damagehead.com/samples/11%20The%20End.m4a. The m4a file is AAC. Through my investigation i figured that mpd uses ffmpeg to read tags (atleast in this case), so i decided to find out what sort of tags ffplay dumps and heres what is says:
--OUTPUT START Metadata major_brand : M4A minor_version : 0 compatible_brands: M4A mp42isom title : The End author : Eddie Vedder album : Backspacer genre : Rock track : 11 year : 2009-09 --OUTPUT END ffplay does not display any artist, but instead prints the author, which is what mpd is probably picking on.
