I never did figure that out. I just used my first time, since it is
uncommon enough on my lists.
Now, however, I use the References: header thusly:
folder-hook . 'uncolor index brightmagenta default "~x

folder-hook lists 'color index brightmagenta default "~x
mithrandir.codesorcery.net !~P"'
