"Choosing" is often tricky. Can I write comething to say "choose list-reply if a known list, otherwise group-reply"? (Without tediously reiterating any list I've already mentioned as subscribed.) Personally I always use group-reply on any message and briefly consider the recipient list before proceeding, in part because of this issue. Also, I (personally) consider plain reply (reply-to-author) to be a bit of a UI design flaw in most user agents as it is presented as the default.
