I've been doing a bit of research on this.

I too had problems with stuttering on moving to 0.3.3. I noticed it was
especially problematic when there was other traffic.

througput tests gave me 6-8 mb/s at best, often 1-2 mb/s. My network
also consists of a master backend, slave back/frontend. I'd recently
upgraded the slave from RH9 to FC5 (mythdora).

Tried a number of different rsizes - from 1024 - 4096. I discover this
doc http://www.netapp.com/library/tr/3183.pdf

Since then I've used this setup

firebird:/home/video/myth-video /video nfs rw,v3,rsize=4096, wsize=4096,
hard,tcp,nolock,addr=firebird 0 0

Note 2 differences - rsize=4096 and crucially tcp (rather than udp).

whilst udp is more effiicient, tcp is much better on congested and
multi-speed networks. With these settings I get consistent 13mb/s.

I'd like to propose we change nfsmount.

p.s. I have an original MVP.
