Dave, reading your original posting I realized you said you could not
open the FLAC file using mclient. That's interesting, as slimserver
should have been able to handle the transcoding to mp3. I am wondering
if you have the necessary files on your server to do the transcoding (if
there are any necessary - I should probably rip to flac and try this).
Note, you are probably playing flac nativly on your S3 and therefore do
not need any flac to mp3 conversion program on your server (again, if
this is how slimserver works).

Anyways, I assume the real push here is to support flac within mclient
just like it is supported on your S3. I have looked into this and, as I
feared, it looks like we would have to look like a S2 (aka SB2) before
were are even offered a flac file.

Does anyone else know for sure?

Going on, what troubles me is what other features will slimserver assume
we can handle at that version level. I have only found bits and pieces
of information regarding this. Probably because the main push behind
slimserver is to support slim devices' clients - which are well defined
or at least stable. So not much discussion goes on about what is and is
not supported. And, as I am not a PERL programmer, looking at
slimserver code is a bit difficult.

Options:
1) Someone could tell me what to expect from slimserver if I told it I
was an SB2.
2) Someone could develop a slimserver patch to support the "oddities" of
mclient (i.e. send flac to a version 1.0 client).

...thanks
