localhost is special and generally means 127.0.0.1. One of your
problems is that you probably have both 192.168.0.50 and 127.0.01 as
local host on your mvpmc. You should probably have:
echo "192.168.0.50 mythtv.mydomain.org mythtv" >> /etc/hosts
That may mean defining a host name on your mythtv box...
Hmmm may need some guidance here. I think that I can set the hostname where
I setup the NIC eth0 info, but I'm not sure about my domain name. I use a
basic Dlink wireless router for my dhcp. Do I set up the domain name in it?
Note that I am on Mandriva 2008. I may need some pretty basic instructions.
