Ok, I won't worry about that, then:-)

 2) In /var/log/messages of my tftp server I get this:

There are no log entries for dongle.bin.config.

It's been almost a year since I made the initial setup to bootstrap the MVP,
but I believe FTP is running on two ports. I'll try to check tonight.

It also finds my Myth backend and allows me to watch recordings.

Grok?? I guess not;-)

How can I check if the config is loading...

Just a dummy-question; Should the contents of /etc/dongle.config equal my
dongle.bin.config.

My config file looks like this:
>> TZ='CET-1CEST,M3.5.0,M10.5.0/3'
>> export TZ
>> echo "TZ='CET-1CEST,M3.5.0,M10.5.0/3'" > /etc/shell.config

I think I've seen ten different timezone config syntax'es in the
wiki:-) (and the same number for setting time). But since the timezone is
just about the only thing that seems to work so far I think I'll leave it
for now:-)

 NTP=pool.ntp.org

Ok, will try that!

 mvpmc -f /etc/helvR10.fnt -s 192.168.1.110 -o composite -a 16:9 -T

No... I guess I''ll have to change that tonight as well!

Thanks for the help - I'll probably return tomorrow with new questions:-)
