Sorry! it was a false alarm - the messages from mythfrontend just drowned.
When I did a systematic test like you suggested it turns out I get the exact
same messages whenever starting live tv or switching tuners.

I examined the backends status, and when I start live tv on the MVP the
tuner status is set to "Encoder 1 is local on localhost and is watching Live
TV". This status remains until I turn off the MVP, so obviously Myth thinks
it is streaming to the MVP (and it has the correct client IP in the log).

So the status is:
1) Time is correct
2) DB access is working (Schedule recordings list works)
3) Mythbackend starts streaming when MVP attempts to start live tv
4) Mythbackend is aware of the MVP and doesn't shut down the tuner until the
MVP doesn't need it any more (switched off)
5) MVP is "waiting" for MythTV

I thought maybe the bitrate was too high. So I tried lowering live-tv well
below the default recording bitrate (recordings play back just fine). Live
TV is normally [EMAIL PROTECTED] kbit/s, default recording is [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and I
lowered live-tv to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Still no luck:-(

I guess I'll have to look at the MVP instead, but I have no idea what to
look for or how to do it? I've seen some mention of logging to NFS mounts,
but I don't know anything about NFS and would rather not have to set up a
new server... Are there any other/easier ways to find out what's going on
inside the MVP's mind?
