I would also be very surprised if a PAL video product wasn't able to process
PAL standard resolution 720x576 - and like I said, it does play back the
recordings just fine, and they are the same resolution!

Besides, if the resolution wasn't supported, shouldn't I just get a black
screen - I never get past the "waiting" popup (and the "taking unusually
long")?

I imagine that the problems going over 720x480 on ntsc has to do with the
higher frame rate - 720x576x50Hz and 720x480x60Hz have the exact same
"pixelrate" (20.736 mio. pixels/s)?

Anyway, I will run a test at 640x480 just to make sure...
