Is your primary back end's tuner ATSC or QUAM?  The mediaMVP can not 
directly play back sound from sources like that.  It needs the type of 
signal you get from an NTSC tuner.  Accordingly, is your slave back 
end's tuner NTSC?

You might be able to set up a VLC session on the serving computer to 
transcode the sound back to normal stereo.  Ask around and check the 
mvpmc.org's wiki pages for hints.
