Hi Robert...

I'm probably the closest like-minded mvpmc developer to you here as I
run mvpmc's, a replaytv box and a mythtv system.

As far as I know, there are no projects similar to mvpmc for an H.264
(or any HDTV) capable player. Some of us are sitting here waiting for a
SigmaDesign/Syabas break through - but have been sitting for some time.
If that ever happens I believe the intent is to copy the mvpmc efforts
& features to the PCH / NMT. I would assume that would include John's
rather stable replaytv client.

I think Sage TV, a commercial company that (in some people's opinion)
skirts the fringe of what is acceptable in the open source environment,
has an HDTV thin client. But I haven't wasted time looking at it. And,
of course, it probably doesn't have the capabilities to be a replaytv
client.

My plan was to either move "my people" to use the mythtv box -or- work
to make the replaytv box control an ATSC tuner as if it were a cable box.

Where does that leave the mvpmc boxes? Well, if I go the mythtv route
there are ways to convert media to SDTV rates. But, I think, most are
not straight forward and complex to set up. Currently, Chase, an iPhone
developer, is designing a mythtv proxy to automate this. However, the
changes he is implementing to his private version of our mvpmc software
has proved difficult to integrate into our project - let alone the
unlikely chance it will fit inside the memory of the mediamvp box. On
the bright side, I think he will eventually include in his mythtv proxy
the ability to turn off security relieving the mvpmc box of the added
code to decode secure transactions.

Where am I going w/this? I think you and I can keep our mvpmc boxes for
replaytv and mythtv (through Chase's proxy) given Chase's proxy works out.

For now, if you really need HDTV / H.264 I would build a small mythtv
front end.

Anyone else have any ideas for Robert (and I as well!)?
