Transcoding to SD doesn't meet the requirement of ATSC playback "in all
its high definition video and audio glory."

As great as that development is, it's still a stop-gap measure for a
presumably diminishing audience, as far as MVP hardware is concerned.
Eventually even us holdouts will upgrade to HDTV displays and want a
set-top-box that can keep up.

How about porting the ReplayTV client to run as a MythTV front-end plugin?

I'd look around for a nettop with NVIDIA video hardware that works with
the H.264 accelerated decoding drivers (if I'm remembering what I read
correctly) and build a full MythTV front-end.

Although I don't have any HDTV requirements yet, I'm starting to grown
envious of a full MythTV front-end. Between the MVP and the DivX DVD
player I have - both of which are very finicky about what video they'll
play back - I'm getting real tired of transcoding, especially when it
fails to work.
