One can think of MClient's remote control as a remote control to
SqueezeCentre. And the part of MClient that plays music as a remotely
controlled client of SqueezeCenter. When you think of it that way, you
realize when you turn the volume down with the happaugge remote you are
actually telling SqueezeCentre to turn the volume down which then tells
MClient music player to turn the volume down.

I don't remember any code that will initially set the volume to zero in
MClient. But, I'm not ruling out an MClient problem. However, I am
thinking it is more likely SqueezeCenter is doing something you don't
want either by pilot or coding error. Have you checked on one of the
SqueezeCenter's mailing lists for problems?
