Brief overview: I wish to use a stripped down Xubuntu server to stream
satellite TV to my MediaMVP.
I've read through the Wikis but am missing something blatantly obvious. My
installation seems to break down at section 3.5 of Martin's HOWTO guide.
I'm able to boot & run a recent nightly MVPMC build. I can stream music from a
Squeezebox Server by selecting the Music client option. I can't figure out how
to make my MVP select either a running HTTP stream served by VLC, or stream
from /dev/video1 (data source from a PVR-500 encoder card).
I can easily hand-configure VLC on the server to stream the satellite
video/audio to a known URI (e.g. http://<server IP>:8080). I can watch this
stream from other computers using VLC or Totem/Gstreamer. I can't figure out
how to select the stream in MVPMC.
I have also tried starting VLC on the server with the "-I telnet" parameter and
confirmed that it's running by telnetting into port 4212. My dongle.config
includes the "--vlc <server IP>" parameter. Still can't figure out how to
invoke the MVPMC VLC client.
My latest attempt involved setting up a CIFS-share directory (/mediamvp) on the
server containing a "playlist.m3u" file. This playlist includes two entries:
1. http://<server IP>:8080
2. /dev/video1
After adding a /server_files share to dongle.config pointed at <server
IP>/mediamvp, I can successfully select this playlist on the MVP via
filebrowser. However, neither playlist entry does anything.
Does anybody have any debugging suggestions or additional methods to try?
Thanks in advance!
