http://www.videolan.org/doc/streaming-howto/en/ch03.html

indicates that you're right (transcode module includes a fps= parameter).

But it also seems to complicate the act of playing since multiple VLM scripts
need invocation on the MVPMC. Filebrowsing to "pvr500.avi" seems a lot simpler.

Remember that I'd like to be able to select a MPEG video stream
(http://ip:port) as a playlist item in MVPMC. This would make MVPMC work like
the rest of the PC-based video hosts. So I am still interested in setting up a
MVPMC build environment locally, first to add the "29.967->25.500 fps" hack.
Later, maybe to learn how to make video URIs play correctly.

Since I seem to be at an impasse, I guess I'll pursue both MVPMC compile and
VLM scripting options and see what ends up feeling easier to use.

  Thanks, all!

P.S. if anybody has a prebuilt dongle with the 25.000fps hack, please let me
know. ;)
