so you have to specify nameserver correctly in resolv.conf..
if it's wrong.. then you have to correct it by knowing your.. DNS>.
which type of connection are you using?.. by the way!

Plz note that I had mentioned that it doesnt connect to any protocol. I
had been using gaim 1.3.* when I wrote the mail first. Now, I upgraded
to gaim 1.5 for your word. But still the debug output is the same.
