Follow-up Comment #4, bug #17903 (project mypaint):

Sorry, I didn't think there would be so many replies so quickly, so I haven't
checked until now. I'm typing these responses as I read, so the paragraphs may
seem a bit random.

@ Andrew
I know, there's always going to be some kind of sacrifice in order to make
things easier for new users. This isn't a major issue, just an annoying one.
Maybe having a small box in the corner to act as the drag point? A thin strip
would be good, but now I wonder if having things too small would make people
with touch screens unhappy. (Are there any touch screen users?)

Perhaps one avenue to consider is making a streamlined, compact UI, and an
optional "Newbie/Touchscreen UI" with large buttons and a simpler design.
Trying to appeal to every possible need with a single UI layout is bound to
make everyone unhappy.

I'll try to help with the design and testing of each UI if you want to try it
out. I'm no great specialist, but having another pair of eyes is usually
helpful.

A tooltip for text would be good, as long as it went away immediately so
users don't have to wait on it to disappear. Tooltips are especially useful
when combined with a single button, or thin strips.

I'm not sure what you mean by a single status bar, but please don't
completely drop the entire concept just because I'm slightly uncomfortable
with it. The docks are a good idea.

Title bars are here to stay as long as the makes and users of window managers
want them. Maybe taking the Google Chrome approach would be interesting.
Perhaps overlaying the menu bar on top of the unused space of the title bar.

Who knows?

@ Joshua
I know you were asking Andrew, but I'm right handed. Although I find having
all of the menus and dialogs on the left more comfortable.
