Hey,
I compiled Mypaint recently and wanted to give a feedback because I've
heard on Mypaint's Twitter channel 1.2 was around... (yay!)
In overall, my experience with new Git-master wasn't good. ( But for sure,
new GUI looks better now, cool flat icons, dark theme possible. ) So, here
is my list, if it can help to polish the sharp edges before a release :
*1. Shortcuts*
No configurable shortcuts anymore on my Gnome desktop. Flying over a
menu and assign with a key doesn't work. :-/ Bug reported. Does it work on
other D.E. ?
*2. Dockers bug*
The dockers works fine when docked. I appreciate to can dock them now on
the left. But in floating mode, the dockers behavior is buggy : dockers
don't restore to the place you left them, they magnet to another docker on
screen and deform it's geometry. It's take a lot of time to deal with this
placement, resize issue. Also, as I can't hide them one by one and restore
( 'Tab' works fine on fullscreen mode only ), I tends to let them display
all the time. Almost all brush group tabbed , all colors tabbed , layer and
tool option. It's more crowdy on the screen than it was before.
*3. Tool option docker*
This is now a new docker I need on screen. And so, it requires more
screen room to run Mypaint now. ( Before sliders where included on the
brush settings ). Also, sliders don't have visible 'numbers' , it's hard to
setup something, a size, an opacity. Having a 'tool option' docker is not
good imo. It's a weak point of Gimp and Krita 's UI design...
*4. Footer bar*
New footer bar has a lot of empty room. I would be happy with it if this
one would display the 'tool options'. Also, a lot of things could be set
on it, I imagine : brush size slider, opacity slider, recent color, recent
presets... Footer bar could be cool.
*5. Background / Layer. *
The option 'show background' and config background use a little wrench
icons and expand the layer dockers. Why not have them in the little 'config
wrench' already here on any docker( on top-right ) ? Also, if you call the
'config Background' dialog ; this one can't be closed or canceled ; only OK
button close it ( modals dialog on Gnome don't have close 'X' button ).
*6. Frame tool / Tool option > color edit*
Here is a new color changer, certainly a GTK3 simplification of color
choosing. I prefered the old one, with a triangle, HSV + RGB value + Hex +
color picker. It was full featured.
*7. Color picker bug*
When I press Control , the cursor doesn't change for a color picker
anymore. I have to Ctrl+click to get the picker appearing while I'm
picking.
Thanks for reading all this list ! meanwhile, I'll go back to a previous
GTK3 Git commit ; but post Mypaint 1.1 for my usage ( because 1.1 has a bad
offset cursor bug , and 1.1.1 never was released with the fix ) :-/ Good
luck with 1.2 !
