It seems that both kernel and glibc have some problems with threads,
but ONLY with SMP under very high load.
I have followed some reports on the kernel list, and I can only hope
that those SMP problems are now resolved fully.
But the way to go is to try upgrading (when 2.2 is available) on a
spare machine.
