I agree with Peter. To help avoid problems, try this: SET @@sql_mode := 'ONLY_FULL_GROUP_BY,STRICT_TRANS_TABLES,NO_ZERO_IN_DATE,NO_ZERO_DATE,ERROR_FOR_DIVISION_BY_ZERO,NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION'; Now run your query again. You should get an error if you're selecting a non-grouped column in a GROUP BY query. I think the above settings are sort of a baseline for sanity's sake. They keep you from doing invalid or stupid things without knowing it. MySQL lets you do these things by default.
