Dear Jackson,

do not mix up Unix users and MySQL users! Only a MySQL user who has been
granted the right SHUTDOWN can shut down the server!

(As Unix root, you can as well kill MySQL. But this might harm open
tables.)

Check for privilege system in the manual.
