You can tell if the server is running by looking at the process list. There should be at least 1 mysqld process.
You can also do a 'mysql -S /path/to/socket/file' if it cannot find the file. -Chait -----Original Message----- From: Alex Jarvis [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, July 10, 2002 3:22 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: can't connect So, I had mysql up and running a week ago, but at some point the system on which it was installed was rebooted. Now when I try to connect I get a "Cannot connect through socket 'var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock'" error message. I've read some of the archives and found similar problems. The common suggestion seems to be that the server is not running. And I think that may be the case. But apparently I don't know how to start the server again. Any help would be appreciated, -Alex --------------------------------------------------------------------- Before posting, please check: http://www.mysql.com/manual.php (the manual) http://lists.mysql.com/ (the list archive) To request this thread, e-mail <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, e-mail <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Trouble unsubscribing?
