Yes I could uninstall mysql with

rpm -qa | grep MySQL
("MYSQL" should be in Uppercase. I tried same with
lower case earlier) Therefore has not worked.
Anyway Thanks lot.

I once again tried to install myssql with

[EMAIL PROTECTED] root]# rpm -i
MySQL-server-4.0.16-0.i386.rpm

[EMAIL PROTECTED] root]# rpm -i
MySQL-client-4.0.16-0.i386.rpm
warning: MySQL-client-4.0.16-0.i386.rpm: V3 DSA
signature: NOKEY, key ID 5072e1f5
[EMAIL PROTECTED] root]# /usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root
password 'adsh1956'
/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost'
failed
error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through
socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)'
Check that mysqld is running and that the socket:
'/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' exists!

Some more help is needed.
Thanks for support.
