How soon do you need to put it in production?

It sounds like the 4.1.3 or 4.1.4 release will be a beta, and then
hopefully a gamma shortly after.

It depends on your business and your confidence in the MySQL codebase,
I think.  We (Yahoo) have run alpha and beta versions in production
several times on very high-profile parts of our web site.  We've never
had a problem doing so.

Now, we didn't do that blidnly, either.  I did some testing beforehand
and kept track of the bugs people were reporting.
