Hi Val,
I have had Fibro for 10 years that I know of and maybe longer than that. Yes taking care of yourself is very important, Stress is a Big Factor and getting a good night sleep every night . Be careful of your time in the sun! I have a pool in my back yard and have always spent time in it in the summer (with a good sunscreen) As time went on I found I tolerated the heat less and you can get rashes and bad itching on your skin especially your arms. The swings in temperature, and damp weather may effect you. You may find MSG and other food items cause your symptoms to show up, swelling in hands and feet, migraines and so on. Learn what your triggers are. If you have a killer day on Saturday make sure you rest on Sunday. Not pushing yourself to over do is important. Your Dr may prescribe meds for you TAKE THEM. A preventative is better than taking pain meds. Everyone is effected differently, learn your limitations. I have found Knitting to be a gentle exercise for my hands when they are stiff, it also is a meditative activity. You feel like you are doing something productive and not just sitting. You may find the your symptoms disappear for periods of time but Fibro does not go away. I was very fortunate to find a wonderful doctor who had it and wrote a book about how to manage it. This doctor has been doing well and her symptons have not come back for about 20 years. Her book is called, "Freedom from Fibromyalgia" by Nancy Selfridge. She lives in Madison, Wisconsin. When I saw her she recommended a good multivitamin, magnesium, and calcium with D3. She also checked my Vitamin D levels (when low it can cause pain). Mine were low and she told me to slowly and carefully increase my time in the sun. Also, In my experience I have found that mediating has been extremely benefitical for me. She also recommended exercising for at least 30 min a day. As long as I do what she and her book told me to do I feel great. The only time that I feel bad and my symptoms come back is when I don't take care of myself. I hope this helps. But the reason I bring the topic of health up is this: does anyone of you have fibromyalgia and are still able to work doing nails??? I've just been diagnosed and frankly, I'm worried. Any advice would help. Thanks!! -Val -- Yours truly, Jenny Mathweg Polished by Jenny, LLC Licensed Nail Technician/ Owner 1280 W.
