Maggie,
I was going to write you when you posted that some time ago.
My first thoughts on that were for you to eventually buy the place as it seems
the owner does not care anymore.
BUT the biggie, which no one else wrote, is that this happens no matter where
you go. RARE is the salon that has happy people in it all day long. Look at
what goes on on this list and the boards. Think of them as one huge salon.
Egos, PMS, personal things, etc, all get in the way of a happy place to go. Or
to work.
I worked at three places before I decided to go it alone and let me tell you
all three were unhappy places.
I am NOT saying there are not good salons to be, but this is just a fact. An
old friend just was bitching to me about the idiots at his place!!! And that is
all guys!!
I think, for ME, I have to make my own happiness. I put that bubble around me
with energy sucking clients and people. You can do it with co-workers. It will
be hard work at first, but ti will come naturally.
If YOU keep the positive outlook and happy demeanor, maybe some of YOU will rub
off on them and things will turn around.
Just some food for thought.
Buenos dias,
Lynnette

just going with the negative flow...I didn't even tell them about the PA
networking event...because when I told them it was in Lancaster a few months
ago (when a date wasn't set) they complained that it was too far! And that it
would be a waste of time.

This, and you're first email that said there's a lot of envy, gossip, etc at
the salon right now but nevertheless it's still a cool place to work? I ALMOST
had to respond just to that statement to say it sounded just like where I am
right now!

Anyway... I'd like to take this moment to shamelessly plug my blog at Nails
Magazine: http://blogs.nailsmag.com/maggie/

Please read the last 4 or 5 entries-- because it's all one long rant-- I'd love
to get some discussion started about what I wrote because I'm seeing a lot more
of this going around-- more and more of us are still happy with what we do but
having problems keeping our positive attitudes in the midst of grumpy
co-workers.

I remember some time ago we all had a long discussion about the book "The
Secret" and how attitude affects things, and after I got all that written I
thought of that book again-- I should read it, I guess.

Anyway... Yeah! to what I quoted up there. For the most part, I still really
like where I'm working too, but am having a harder time keeping my chin up
while I listen to my co-workers gripe about everything and blame the salon
owner for all the things they aren't stepping up to take care of themselves
(it's a booth rental salon-- most of the gripes are not the owner's
responsibility to fix.) And it pains me, but I may not be long for the salon at
this point.
