I would add a teeny tiny thin layer of acrylic blended into the free edge for
the next couple of times to give her nails the chance to grow out past where
she *probably* (i.e. most likely!) peeled the gel off and ruined the adhesive
surface that the fingernail must have in order for the gel to actually "stick".

Tell her this is temporary, until the nail grows out past the slick surface and
then all will be well again.
If you figure it out, let me know too! I agree it could be the picking/peeling
thing.

Thanks for everyone's efforts!

Ok: I'm pretty sure nothing on my part has changed, largely because no one else
is suddenly presenting any issues. About half my clients are gel and/or gel
polish.

This is about the 3rd time the same client has reported that she's not getting
a full week out of her gel mani. She's been with me for 2 years, and has always
been able to wear the gel polishes for up to a month with NO chipping/peeling.
It has never mattered which line we've used, they've always worn like a dream.
Suddenly-- POOF-- like her nails became immune to gel of any sort.

Rhonda K (Thanks Rhonda!) answered via FB that if she has ever peeled off gel
in the past, it won't stick as well until her nails grow out... this is
currently the closest input I've heard that makes me think "ahhhhhhh" so I will
be asking her lots of questions when I see her again.

Yes, I've used Protein Bond (but have not yet tried curing it.) I've tried
doing a base layer of traditional gel but it didn't seem to help.

The more I think about it and the more input I get from you guys, the more I'm
suspecting either a scenario like Rhonda suggested, or that she might be
picking slightly-- you know? Not enough to peel off the polish but enough to
compromise the seal around the edges so that it starts to peel on its own.

*sigh* She is not a client who is likely to switch to acrylic, or regular
polish, for any length of time. I expect I'll lose her entirely before she
tries something else, an I really don't want to lose her-- she's one of those
awesome clients that's worth fighting to keep! Also, I HATE not having the
answer!!!!!!

Well you know all the trouble shooting questions... Any changes in diet,
medication, health etc. or in procedure or product ... Did you change hand
soap? Etc.

Have you tried using one of the protein primers ? Are her nails buffed too
smoothly? I once had an issue with one nail repeatedly -- and realized that in
my zeal to make that "burger" stick (as DianA would say! Lol!) I had buffed it
a bit and was causing my own issue!

Give us more deets to work with... And we'll all chime in, I'm sure!

WTF?! How do I solve the problem? Changing lines is not working: doesn't matter
if it's Shellac, Gelish, NSI, Eco, or the OPI gelcolor-- it's like her nails
have become immune to gel.
