yup apples for apples is difficult..

dont forget tho RIPE provides breakfast and lunch at the hotel within that fee

also RIPE dinner is a full sit down dinner with drinks and music for the whole 
evening, whereas beer n gear (which is sponsor provided of course) is only 
2hrs, buffet + drinks. most people at nanog typically would spend money after 
in going out for a dinner
