You read my mind - I would have thought that this was a real (not imaginary) danger. Nearly all UV is absorbed by the front of your eyes, causing corneal damage, cataracts & macular degeneration. I'd really be very careful with this, especially if there are children around - there are reasons that these things were run inside cabinets...
