I am getting ready to re-cap some channels on my Neotek Series 1 console. Planning to use Panasonic FC capacitors. Console is 16 X 8
I am also planning on measuring the resistors and replacing any out of tolerance ones, but my question is: are there any resistors that you more experienced folks would recommend replacing regardless of condition? Should I even worry about the resistors or just concentrate on the caps? My board is a hardwired style. My plan is to start with just 2 channels and use the "snip the wire and then re-connect by soldering a piece of bus wire in between" method to see how it goes and if I like the sound. Then at a later date, strip the whole console and re-thread with all new bus wire. Lastly, I have been testing some channels by sending each channel a 1K tone and adjusting gain until I get 0 VU. Then I slowly sweep from 1K down to 20 hz and then back up to 20K while watching the VU (LED actually) some channels stay pretty flat through the sweep, but one actually goes up to +2 or +3 db down around 700hz and up at 5K or so. Is this a good method, and do aging caps change frequency response like this? I had heard that aging caps affect (reduce) lower frequencies. Curious that I am getting an increase in db at some lower frequencies. Thanks for this great forum. Sorry for my long post. -David Moore
